Sketch Assignments Art I
Each assignment is due the first day of the week that you come to class. Sketches are worth 50 points each. Please take your time and think about the assignment, push yourself to be as artistically creative as possible and put forth a good effort.
On the bottom of each page draw a line 2.5 inches up. In this area place the assignment sticker and write about your work; tell how or why you came up with your idea, what medium you used, and what you especially like about your finished composition. This needs to be a paragraph with five or more sentences. Please use the art vocabulary that is in the assignment in the paragraph. Please underline each art vocabulary word.
Using line, create a rhythmic, abstract composition. Use markers or colored pencils.
Create a scene using organic shapes only. Use color and size for emphasis.
Create two value scales with five values each. One in pencil and one in ink. Be creative with your shapes, keeping them in order and connected.
Create a composition using at least one texture rubbing, one simulated texture, and one invented texture. This can be realistic or abstract. Use pencil.
Create a scene that tells of your favorite place that you were this summer.
Draw a portrait of your favorite person.
Create a composition using two-point linear perspective. Can be realistic or abstract. Use color.
Create a composition expressing feeling or emotion. Use color.
Create a single cell cartoon dealing with a school issue. Use a balloon for your speaking parts. Use pen or marker.
Create a monochromatic composition.
Draw an abstract self-portrait. Use complementary colors to express your inner being. Use colored pencils or markers.
Create a realistic composition based on a family feast or family celebration.
Create a composition using geometric shapes. Add an organic shape for emphasis. Color using analogous colors.
Draw your pet (or the pet you wish you had) realistically.
Create a composition using your name. Use imaginative or decorative lettering. Use monochromatic color on the whole paper with at least five values.
Create a composition with your choice of subject. (Can use this one three times 1st semester.
Art II Sketch Assignments
November 17th – December 15th
No sketch due week of November 24th

Visual Artifact Journal
A two-page spread will be due the first day of the week that class is held.
You are to find or produce an artifact to affix to the pages that you find to be visually engaging. A two part reflection will then be added to the pages:
· Contextual account (how/why the artifact was selected and why it is important to you).
· Detailed description (use art terminology and descriptive language).
Grading is based on:
· Completion: Is there an artifact and a two part reflection?
· Thorough description of visual qualities: Use of art terminology and descriptive language.
· Contextual discussion of artifact.
Variety of artifacts: Are you doing the same thing over and over? Do you have man-made objects, natural objects, photos, drawings…?
Ceramics Sketch Assignments
Each assignment is due the first day of the week that you come to class. Sketches are worth 50 points each. Please take your time and think about the assignment, push yourself to be as artistically creative as possible and put forth a good effort.
Your sketch assignment this year will be drawing ideas for ceramic works of art. Draw your ideas from two to three different views (top, side, other side if different), use shading and color.
On the back of each assignment, you are required to write about your work; tell how or why you came up with your idea, how you will make it, what type of decoration is added (if any), and glaze you might use on it.
